Activity: Fall and Spring Book Fair Description: Parents have the opportunity to purchase great books for home and classroom libraries. Proceeds from book sales are used to buy books for the school. Occurrence: Twice a year Fall and Spring Location: Eastin Multi-purpose Room Opportunities: * Setup – Help display books (1-3 PM on day of book fair). * Cashier – Handle payment of books, cash register, checks, and credit cards (slots available between 5:30 PM and 8:30 PM). * Coordinator – Liaison with Scholastic and work with teachers on selection of books for school. Volunteer time clustered around book fair. Approximately 60 hrs/year. * Tear down – Pack books not sold back into boxes, and clean up Multi-purpose Room (8 – 9 PM on evening of book fair). * Thursday after sale setup, manning and clean up (2 – 4 PM).
Activity: Art Vistas Description: A parent run arts program offering six 1.5 hour lessons per year. Requires no previous art or teaching background. Occurrence: Six Lessons during school year plus training Location: Eastin Elementary Room 213 for Training and your child's classroom for the lesson Opportunities: * Docents – Responsible for teaching the lesson. * Helper – Helps the docent with the art projects with the students. * Supply Organizers – organize yearly supplies, maintain prints, and print list. * Grade Level Coordinators – responsible for making sure their grade level supplies and prints are ready for each lesson and that their docents are fulfilling duties. * Special Education – volunteers needed to help teach lessons to the Special Education classes.
Activity: PTC Website Description: The Parent Teacher Club has a website that needs to be updated with latest information. Occurrence: As needed. Location: At home. Opportunities: * Administrator - keep content on the website up to date. * Moderator – moderate the yahoo email group.
Activity: Box Tops and Labels Fundraiser Description: Fundraising activity – Count box tops and labels to send into General Mills and Campbell. Each box top is worth $0.10. Labels provide their own catalog. Occurrence: Twice a year Fall and Spring Location: Eastin Elementary Room 213 (for counting) and at home Opportunities: * Coordinator – Submission of box tops and labels. * Classroom party – Class which turns in the most box tops and/or labels win a pizza party. Need someone to coordinate with teacher and get pizzas, drinks, plates. * Provide winner with plaque of their accomplishment.
Activity: Dinner Night Out (Evening fundraisers) Description: Fundraising activity – Coordinate with local restaurants and/or vendor for fundraisers that happen in the evening. This also includes such events as Jamba Juice program, and all Supermarket programs such as SaveMart, eScrip, and any other. Occurrence: Typically once a month or less. Location: Local restaurants. Opportunities: * Coordinator – Determine restaurants to work with, handle all paperwork, and follow-up to make sure check is received. * Set up times when events may occur.
Activity: Community Building Description: Fun activities the Parent Teacher Club puts on periodically throughout the year such as the dance, Art Night, and Movie Night. New ideas are welcome! Occurrence: Approximately once a month, typically on a Friday evening. Location: Eastin Elementary Multi-purpose Room and at home Opportunities: * Pre-night activities: Purchase concession items, decorations, etc. * Setup – Help set up movie projector, seating. * Concession Stand – Popcorn machine and other items sold, either pizza (for movie night), glow bracelets, etc. * Tear down – Clean concession area and popcorn machine, clean multi-purpose room, put items away.
Activity: Jog-a-thon (ASB activity) Description: Fundraiser – Funds from this event are used to pay for co-curricular activities and field trips. Occurrence: Once a year, typically first Friday of October during the school day. Location: Eastin Elementary playground Opportunities: * Help teacher prepare the students for running and providing water as needed. * Marking the students as they run by to keep track of laps run. * Provide materials for marking the laps. * Help with treats.
Activity: Room Parent Description: Liaison between teacher and other parents to communicate and help with celebrations and/or other classroom activities. Occurrence: As needed by the teacher. Location: Your child's classroom and at home. Opportunities: * Communicate with other parents. * Help with celebrations.
Activity: Yearbook Description: Memories of our school year. Occurrence: As needed at the different Eastin Events. Location: Eastin Elementary Opportunities: * Taking pictures. * Designing yearbook layout. * Coordinate with teacher liaison for the yearbook.
Activity: Bake Sale Description: Fundraising activity - Bake sale to raise funds for the Parent Teacher Club Occurrence: Twice a year Fall and Spring Location: Front lobby of Eastin Elementary Opportunities: * Donate baked goods and/or water/drinks. * Man the booth to sell goods.
Activity: School Supplies Description: Fundraising activity – Provide the ability to purchase school supplies for the next school year. Occurrence: Once a year – May/June time period. Also again day before school starts Location: Eastin Elementary and at home Opportunities: * Coordinator – interface with school supplies supplier. * Deliver of school supplies to the classrooms.
Activity: See's Candy Fundraiser Description: Fundraising activity – Sell See's candy to raise funds for Parent Teacher Club. Occurrence: Once a year – November/December time period Location: Eastin Elementary and at home Opportunities: * Coordinator – Interface with See's Candy. * Helpers - Deliver candy to classrooms.
Activity: Walk and Roll Description: Alameda County sponsored program the district uses to encourage different ideas for getting to school safely since there is no more busing. Occurrence: At least twice per year, International Walk and Roll Day in October and Bike to School day in May. Up to coordinator is want to do on a monthly basis. Location: Eastin Elementary Opportunities: * Coordinator – Liaison with Walk and Roll organization. * Helpers – On “Walk and Roll” days help with handing out ribbons and/or other items to encourage walking or biking to school.
Activity: Field Day Description: End of school year celebration to reward the students for their hard work. School and Parent Teacher Club sponsored event. Occurrence: Once a year, typically the last week of school, during school. Location: Eastin Elementary playground and field Opportunities: * Coordinator – Work with school to determine appropriate activities. * Setup – Help set up tables and/or chairs for certain activities. * Face painting and henna. * Supervision – Make sure the students are safe at all stations. * Tear down – Clean up school yard and put items away.
Activity: Fifth Grade Promotion Description: End of school and promotion activities for the Fifth grade students. School and Parent Teacher Club sponsored. Occurrence: Once a year, typically the last couple of weeks of school. Location: Eastin Elementary and Logan High School. Opportunities: * Dance – Help set up Multi-purpose room. * Food – Coordinate food for both dance and pool party.
Activity: School Site Council (SSC) Description: Elected group of parents chartered to determine use of local city bonds and other educational policies. Occurrence: Meet once a month, typically second Wednesday of the month. Some time used outside of meeting for research, etc. Location: Eastin Elementary Media Room. Opportunities: * Board members. |
